Tournament Opportunities

This is a fairly comprehensive list of selected tournaments, mostly in the mid-Atlantic, that are suitable for our players.  You should also check out the Virginia Chess Federation page and click on “Clearinghouse” for upcoming tournaments in our region.   You can also check out the VSCA calendar here for smaller events and be sure to click through all the tabs.


April 2020

April 4: Seven Cities Tournament (Norfolk, VA) — CANCELED

April 4:  NEW Seven Cities ONLINE School Chess Championship

April 17-19, 2020: 2020 All-Girls National Championships (Wheeling, IL) — CANCELLED

– USCF rated only. Girls only! U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, U18 sections by age.

April 25: ARCC April Scholastic Tournament (Currituck, NC) — CANCELLED

– Both USCF members (Elite and Novice) and unrated sections (Rookie).

April 25: Rosa Lee Carter April 25 Scholastic (Ashburn, VA) — CANCELLED

– USCF rated only. K-3, K-5, K-8 sections. Trophies per section – 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Top Upset, Top Unrated, Top Girl. Medals to everyone who gets a Plus score.


May 2020

May 2, 2020: McNair May 2019 Scholastic and Open Quads (Herndon, VA) ???

– USCF rated only. K-3, K-5, K-8 sections as well as open quads (students K-8 must be rated over 1300 for quads).

May 2: MacArthur Spring Tournament (Virginia Beach, VA) — CANCELLED

– Both USCF members and unrated sections. Details to follow.

May 8-10, 2020: 2020 National Elementary (K-6) Championship (Nashville, TN) — CANCELLED

– USCF rated only. K-1, K-3, K-5, and K-6 sections.

May 16: ARCC May Scholastic Tournament (Currituck, NC) ???

– Both USCF members (Elite and Novice) and unrated sections (Rookie).

May 21-25: 8th Cherry Blossom Classic (Dulles, VA) ???

– USCF rated only. Open, U2300, U2000, U1700, U1400, and U1100.
